Titus' surgery

Yesterday was Titus' surgery to correct Strabismus in his eyes. He had both eyes done. The day went very smoothly but we ended up with a little extra wait time. Since I misread the instructions, I gave him a little applesauce and we had to wait a few more hours to digest the food. Oops! But all things work together for good... and we hung out with little T, watching Disney channel and exploring the halls and elevators. Finally, it was time to go in, the Child Life specialist came and explained everything to Titus and answered his questions (what do the tools look like?). Then we went back and he got his happy juice. It made him pretty tired, but no matter how we tried to persuade him, he would not put on the hospital gown. The nurses got it on him after he was out. Titus took his "Fred, the feel better frog" with him that our good friend Ms. Lynn and Zachy gave him. He loved that frog and squeezed that frog all morning. Lance and I waited in the waiting room for the hour and a half until they came to get us. It was taxing, to say the least. Even though we knew he would be fine, waiting is like standing on a cliff wondering if the wind is going to blow you off. We had every hope and confidence in the Lord's hand and Titus' future, so we simply waited. We were warned of the different ways kids come out of anesthesia (combative, crying...) but when he began to wake up, and he sure took his time (which the nurse said was a good thing) he tried to rub his eyes and only fought me on having to hold his hands down. Once he understood and remembered that he couldn't rub them, he got focused on the many popsicles that he could have and was content to not "itch his eyes". He didn't like it a bit and told me he didn't like having surgery, but Titus has a silent strength to prevail thru what he must to get to the other side of something. That is what I saw yesterday, he admitted his discomfort, but he pressed on and today he is really feeling much better! He's still having some discomfort and knows to rest, put his washcloth back over his eyes and not rub them, but now he can play his Nintendo DS, watch some tv and eat (which seems to be most important to him after yesterday's fast.)! We are very thankful!!
What to expect... the dr. said that his eyes may have an adjustment period of some crossing while the brain recommunicates what the eyes should do. So far, so good!

Glad to hear everything went well. We'll be praying for a quick recovery and that the eyes will adjust great. Give T a big hug for us for being so brave!

Hey Sharon. That last comment was from us, the Lanes. Don't know why it says Paul instead of B2bomber now.

I love the pictures. The first one is so heartbreaking, just to see a child in that kind of situation, even though necessary. But the last one, oh, he is precious! His eyes already look better, at least to me. I hope his recovery is continuing to go well, praise the Lord!
